Pankaj Lochan’s Upcoming Book ‘Sigma: as life sums it all…”

SIGMA is a set of 7 short stories. SIGMA is a work of fiction that doesn’t mean to challenge existing assumptions or existing pedagogies or religious ensembles; it is just a tribute to the great philosophers and thinkers who taught us the greater meaning of life.

This is book is about the people around us, their deeds and then, the Karmic reckonings. There have been many people in our lives whom we’ve tried to stop in doing wrong things or what they thought would provide them short-cuts to success, while belying basic tenets of righteousness. But when you don’t understand the LARGE SUM in life, you don’t heed to such free advice. When you see your acts, and the retributions thereof, in a short time-window, you will tend to think like this! But when you would stretch the reference time duration to your life-time, you would realize the unimportance of the short-cuts that we take in life.

Philosophically, SIGMA to me signifies nature’s balance – the physical and chemical balances of the human mind and body. In another way, SIGMA is the result of the cause-effect relationship between intent & deeds and its subsequent impact; the intent & deeds being the ‘cause’ and the ‘effect’ being what ultimately happens to an individual during his lifetime as a results of his intent & deeds!

More empirically, I believe that if the horizon of reconciliation of human deeds and their (karmic) retributions were stretched to one’s full lifetime, one would see how “life sums it all”. Whenever I think of SIGMA, a lot of these names start floating in front of my eyes. I remember of many of these with a victor’s accomplishment on their faces when they get something in excess of what they deserved, or worked for! At another time, when they do not get their dues, they felt bad. When I think about why they have this thought, I realise its because of one’s inability to think long-term.

So, SIGMA to me, is the large sum, as life sums it all!
